In 2005 the city of Rockford announced that it was considering 
building a whitewater park next to the Fordham Dam in Downtown 
Rockford. Efforts to acquire the property are on-going and consultants 
have been hired.

In order to show that the Paddling Community strongly supports this 
project,
The Illinois Paddling Council is planning a special paddling event on 
October 29th. Paddlers from around Illinois will put in at Atwood 
Homestead and paddle the 9.4 miles to Beattie Park just north of the 
Fordham Dam. Car shifts will start at 10:00am All paddlers are 
welcome. There is a $10.00 insurance fee. Details are available at
