Hello boaters,
You've seen the announcement that our indoor paddling season is about to
begin. We're going to kick off the season with a special session that will be
devoted to working with those of you who would like to teach that vital kayaking
 skill of rolling.

This instructors workshop will take place on Sunday, November 5. We invite
both experienced instructors (I really could use some help!) and those of you
who have never taught rolling before. The most important qualification is a
desire to work with others. Naturally, it helps greatly if you have a
consistent roll yourself, but that's not an absolute requirement. You can still learn
some of the teaching skills to help others----and in the process, will
probably also improve your own roll.

To start things off we're going to watch the instructional video, "The Kayak
Roll" while munching on pizza. We will meet at noon---likely in the
Hoofer/Bradley Lounge, but I've got to confirm that. After an hour or so of pizza
and video, we'll load boats and proceed to the pool for our usual 2-4 p.m. slot.

Unlike regular sessions, you will NOT need to buy a ticket for this. The
club rightfully recognizes the importance of generating new leaders and
instructors, so is picking up the costs for this session (along with the pizza).

Sign-up is by email only (to me)--make sure you include your name, paddler
rating and a note about your experience level teaching rolling. We also could
use some volunteer beginning paddlers/rollers (maybe 3?--the first 3 to
volunteer will be in) to serve as guinea pigs (er, model students!) for this
session.

Happy paddling,
Dan York
