SAC trip
WHEN: Sunday 10am. We'll skip going to Culvers afterwards so I intend
to be back around 3:30pm

WHERE: Meet at the Hoofer boathouse and we'll carpool to Sauk City to
practice in the outflow of the Sauk Dam ("Sac"). If your car does not
have racks, park in the Helen C. White garage which is free on
Sundays.

WHAT:
This lesson is your introduction to whitewater kayaking and also an
opportunity to get comfortable and improve your skills in class II
whitewater. For the beginners, there will be a short talk on river
safety and a brief review of the eskimo rescue technique. Then we will
practice entering the current and paddling in whitewater.

PREREQUISITES:

You must have...

- a current Hoofer Outing Club membership

- a kayak lake rating

- passed the swim test

MORE INFO: See the link to "Sac" trips under the "Whitewater kayaking" link

WHAT TO BRING:
Towel
water bottle
change of dry clothes
warm-when-wet clothes
shoes/booties that fit inside the kayak
nose plugs (optional)
$4 for gas

WHAT To WEAR:
It will be chilly so bring warm when wet clothing.
This means anything made of a SYNTHETIC materials is good such as
capilene, polypropylene, polyester, fleece, lycra, spandex etc. Any
material that wicks away sweat is good. Wool is also good. COTTON IS
BAD!! Cotton sucks up the water and will make you cold so stay away
from it.

warm when wet clothes examples:
Possibilities for Top: fleece vest, fleece pullover, wool sweater,
long sleeve synthetic shirt, synthetic long underwear top, a nylon
jacket to shield from the wind

Bottom: lycra/spandex/capilene running pants, nylon jogging pants,
capilene long underwear, fleece pants, rain pants

Shoes: aqua socks, sandals (although sometimes these don't fit in the
small boats), thick wool socks, neoprene socks, neoprene booties

SIGN UP: Students who got bumped from the Intro to Kayaking Week Sac
trip get priority. This trip will be limited by the number of boats we
can transport and the number of safety boaters. Sign up by email by
telling me your NAME, RATING (lake, R1, etc) and whether you can drive
and how many passengers/boats you can transport and if you had
originally signed up for the Intro to kayaking week sac trip.

See ya on the water,
Laurieann
