(sorry if this is a repeat, i made a typo when trying to send this to the
boaters list the first time!)
Are you thinking about trying whitewater boating but aren't sure?
Have you just started paddling but don't know what to work on during those
lake practices / pool sessions?
Are you looking to improve your river reading / river running skills?
Do you want to know what it takes to get started in playboating?
Or are you just addicted to whitewater?
If you answered yes (or even maybe!) to any of the above questions, then
this Whitewater Series is for you!
As much as I'd like to deny the fact that the weather is starting to get
colder and the end of our whitewater season is approaching, somehow I don't
think my first winter in Madison is going to be the year when it
miraculously stays in the 70s all winter long. So in order stay motivated
about whitewater boating through the cooler months, we will be hosting
whitewater nights on an approximately monthly basis October thru March.
Regardless of your level of experience, these video nights are intended to
inspire you to talk about whitewater and to provide a springboard for ways
we can all work towards becoming better boaters (even if we can't be on a
river).
The first video night will be on the 17th anniversary of the Loma Prieta
earthquake (that's Tuesday, October 17th for you non-californians) after the
meeting. Bringing snacks/food to share is highly encouraged!
October: Strokes and Concepts
November: Rolling
Dec/Jan: Playpaddling
Feb: River Running
March: Swiftwater Rescue
The order of topics may be subject to change. Depending on the length of
videos shown, we will also show video clips that allow us to discuss river
reading basics and/or just some good, old-fashioned WW porn.
Additional details will be provided as we get closer to each WW night.
If anyone has any suggestions for additional topics to cover, or maybe you
just have some really good video that you want to share, let me know! (
