Welcome to Glacia: Madison's premier Foam Weapons Live Action Role Playing Game!

Sign-up online (note this is not organized by Hoofers - we're just joining the pre-existing game).  We can carpool from campus or meet at Elver Park.

What is Glacia?
Glacia is an outdoors game. After creating a character based on
fantasy literature (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Knights of the Round Table, etc), we "role-play" by creating adventures involving political interactions and foam-weapon style combat.  

Or just show up and we'll give you a character :)

Is it safe?
We sign liability waivers just in case, but safety is definitely the first rule of the game! Every weapon must meat the game marshal's approval to be used (most weapons bought over the internet do NOT meat our high standards!). Even our shields have foam padding...

Do I need weapons and medieval clothing before playing?
NOPE! We have tons of loaner gear!

How to get started
1) We play the first and third Saturday of every month. Meet at Elver Park on Madison's West Side between 11:30 and noon.
2) Directions: When you enter the Elver Park parking lot, turn right. Go all the way to the back, by the XC ski trails and soccer fields. We'll be there by the parking lot until the game starts (and in the trails afterwards).
3) Everyone must sign a waiver - if you're under 18 make sure your parent/guardian is there to sign it! (you must be 16 or older to play)
4) Come dressed in loose clothing that can take a beating! You'll be running/walking around with fighting with foam weapons.
5) Bring water and snacks. Being dehydrated or hungry isn't going to help your cause!

What's it like to play Glacia? Why should I join?
Though our group isn't so large and hard-core as Darkon, we use the same rules set. Check out the movie that was just made about them: http://www.darkonthemovie.com/

What do we do when we're not playing?
Sometimes we have weapon-making parties, garb-making parties,
adventure planning sessions, and just plain get-together! Also, check out the forums at forums.glacia.org - there you can discuss adventure planning, ask rules questions, etc, AND you can develop your character by role-playing in the "In Character" boards (which people who move away keep doing!).

I really like it! What can I do to help out?
Well, do what the people who first helped you out did! Bring your friends, help educate newbies, teach others how to make weapons and garb, and plan or co-run adventures.

What other games are like Glacia?
In Madison a LOT of people play Ring Game (based on Lord of the
Rings). Its been going on since 1977, and now attracts 100-200 people. Though it doesn't use foam weapons, its REALLY fun!

Also there's Darkon. Though its not around here, they started with the same rules set so its fun to look at things they came up with...
