DOI (Day of Instruction) is only a few weeks away! (Saturday Sept 8th)

What is DOI? It is an awesome opportunity for everyone in the club to learn new skills.
It includes lessons in Bike Maintenance, Canoeing, Whitewater Kayaking, Sea Kayaking and Top Rope Climbing.

Also swim tests will be available after any of the lake lessons.

DOI is also a perfect time to share some of your own skills and knowledge with new members! We are still looking for people who are willing to teach or assist with lessons. Consider stepping up and helping with at least one session!

Not sure if you know what to do as an instructor? We can help! The club has many resources that outline what should be covered in a class and various ways of covering the material. Additionally, you can get your feet wet instructing by shadowing someone already leading a lesson. For DOI, often the Kayak Lake Lessons are large, so having extra instructors who can give eskimo rescues is a huge help.

For those new to the club watch for the posting of sign-up sheets and take this opportunity to get started in a new activity with Hoofers.

Some of the Lessons offered include:

Lake Lessons:
Kayak Lake Lessons
Canoe Lake Lessons

Skill Lessons:
SK0 Sea Kayak Skills Lesson (Requires having completed the Kayak Lake Lesson and Swim Test)
WW Kayak Rolling
Advanced WW Skills
Solo Canoe Strokes
Swamped Canoe Rescue

Off the Water Lessons:
Possible Rock Climbing Trip to Devil’s Lake

Moonlight Canoeing Trip

There are other ways to help out so if you are interested in helping but don’t feel you have the experience just let me know. (Examples include: helping with sign-ups, keeping the gear organized between sessions and helping with other logistics such as the food and making sure students and instructors know where they should be for each session.)

Thanks,
Tim Grant
