It doesn't look like the email function on the website is working, or maybe it's a much-delayed response, but I posted a trip for Saturday, 10 February. See web calendar for signup. We'll meet at the Union around 5:30 to check out skis and carpool to the park.

----

Although we missed out on the candlelight ski at Blue Mound SP last weekend because of low signup and cold/windy weather (and I later heard that the park had cancelled the event anyway... so just as well that we didn't try to go), we get another chance at a candlelight ski this weekend at Lake Kegonsa.

I have never skied at this park before, and from what I have seen of the park when there for homebrewing camping trips, I can't imagine that the trails are very hilly, so this should be a good trip for beginning skiers. I will, however, ask that participants have some X-C ski experience because of the darkness and the likely number of people on the trails. Save your first-time learning experience for a sunlight ski outing :-)

Cost will be low... help out your driver with money for fuel (about 30-40 miles round trip depending on where we go afterward) and the daily equivalent of the park fee divided among passengers ($7 for daily permit for Wisconsin plates, or equivalent contribution toward the driver's annual sticker. We can go out for food and drink afterward depending on the interest of the participants, and I welcome any suggestions if you have a favourite place in the general vicinity of the park, or perhaps we can stop at the Great Fitch on the way back.

Please sign up on Hoofers website if possible.

Event description from Natural Resources website:

Lake Kegonsa State Park, Stoughton, (608) 873-9695 - Candlelight Ski. Join us for a fun winter evening of cross country skiing. About 2 miles of ski trails will be lit with hundreds of glowing luminaries. When you are finished skiing, warm up by the bonfire and enjoy refreshments sold by the park friends group. This event is weather and snow conditions permitting. Sorry, no pets are allowed on the ski trails. 6-9 p.m.
